Residence Permits for the purpose of study or work in the Slovak Republic


INFORMATION ON TEMPORARY AND PERMANENT RESIDENCE PERMIT IN SLOVAKIA

Types of stay

 

A.             Temporary residence permit- for a period longer than 90 days or to do business, employment, studies, specific program activities, or family reunion a foreigner must obtain a permit for temporary residence. The permit can be granted by local Immigration Police Office for a period of not more than 1 year, but can be extended.      

B.        Permanent residence permit - entitles a foreigner to stay in Slovakia for an unlimited period of time and can be granted to the foreigner, whose spouse or minor child is a Slovak citizen having permanent residence in Slovakia, or to the foreigner, who is a dependant (in direct line) of the Slovak citizen with the permanent residence in Slovakia or to the single child younger than 18 years of the foreigner with permanent residence and if it is in the interest of the Slovak Republic (not to a pensioner). In other cases the applicant is in the first place applying for a temporary residence and later for permanent residence. 

                                                        How to apply

Foreigners should submit their application for residence in Slovakia at the Slovak Embassy  in person in the country of which passport holders they are, or at the Slovak Embassy  in the country of their residence. Every applicant must present his/her application with supporting documents at the Embassy  in person, where he/she will be interviewed. Citizen of EU member-states will ask only for registration. Please call us for an appointment well ahead.

 

The following must be submitted:

1.             Application form. Data in the application form shall be filled in by typewriter or by capital letters in Slovak language. Information given in the application must be accurate and full; incorrect and incomplete information may result to non-acceptance of the application, or termination of the residence permit. In case of lack of space in columns, put the data on an extra sheet.

2.         One of these documents certifying the reason for the stay:       

a) for business activities:

n     Extract from a Slovak Commercial Register, in which the applicant is a statutory body,

n     Trade License Certificate, in which the applicant is a statutory body,

n     Agreement signed before a Slovak Notary Public on establishment of a company,

n     Decree of Slovak Licensing Office on interruption of the procedure for issuing a trade license, when the only reason for interruption of the procedure is missing temporary residence permit,

n     Other document certifying business or entrepreneur activities, e.g. license for medical, legal activities.

b) for employment -  Work Permit issued by Slovak Labor Office (to apply in advance),

c) for studies - Confirmation of acceptance to the school,

d) for activities in specific programs - Confirmation of the institution concerned with regard to performing scientific or academic activities,

e) for family reunion with a foreigner - a marriage certificate of a foreigner who has been granted temporary or permanent residency permit, provided a marriage has been existing at least for one year

f) for family reunion with a Slovak citizen - a marriage certificate, document on permanent residency of spouse in Slovakia, declaration of a Slovak citizen, that the spouse will not be a burden for a Slovak social system.

3.            Passport, which must be valid at least 6 months after intended last day of stay in Slovakia, or notarised copy of the identification page of the passport.

4.         Two passport size photographs (3 x 3,5 cm).

5.         A certificate of no criminal record in Slovakia. Application form is enclosed; after completion of the application send it to the Embassy; turn around time for processing of the application and its delivery to the Embassy is approximately 3 months.

6.         A certificate of no criminal record in your country or all of the countries you has lived in the last three years. In order to apply for a certificate, the applicant should visit a local police station or the embassy of the competent country.

7.         A document confirming financial resources for covering costs of the stay:

n    Work agreement between the applicant and his employer stating the salary,

n    Slovak bank statement, which could be submitted to the Slovak Foreign Police after entering Slovakia,

n    Affidavit by a family member, that he/she will provide to the applicant applying for family union sufficient financial support during entire stay in Slovakia,

n    Confirmation of the pension transfer to Slovakia,

n    Confirmation by the school, that applicant intending to study has sufficient financial resources for every month of his/her study in Slovakia.

8.         A document confirming accommodation arrangements during the stay in Slovakia:

n    Agreement with owner or renter of an apartment from whom the apartment is to be rented,

n    Confirmation of the lodging facility, e.g. hotel, hostel, dormitory, that the accommodation will be provided to the applicant.

9.         A document confirming medical insurance policy contracted for payment of all costs for hospitalisation and medical treatment in Slovakia, e.g. insurance policy identity card. 

10.       Fee paid by cash or cashier's check, which varies on the purpose of stay.

 

 

 

Documents requirements

             

All documents supporting the application must be presented in original and in copy otherwise the original will not be returned. All documents must be issued (except passport) no more than 90 days prior to the application is submitted. If the appication for permanent or temporary residence permit is submitted at the Slovak Embassy in London, all foreign public documents provided must be legalized with apostille; eventually, superlesalisation if required. For further processing provide us please with your e-mail address. Documents in other languages must be translated into Slovak; the Embassy cannot translate the documents, can only provide the applicant with a list of translators upon request.

The Embassy can accept the application which meets all criteria and is supported by all required documentation. The application will be than send to the Slovak Border and Aliens Police. If police grants the permit, the Embassy  will notify the applicant and the visa entitling applicant to enter Slovakia will be issued. The process after the application is completed and found by Police in order takes no more than 3 months.

Foreigners to which has been granted a residence permit are required within three working days, since their entry into the Slovak territory, to report to the Police beginning of their stay. For further information you may visit web site http://www.minv.sk/
